Ok, so this is an "announcement" of not only a new tournament, but also we hope a new "future" for LA and our battle scene. Starting with Heat Wave LA will now be having a tournament every 3 months. We're also changing the way we handle the belts from here on. As of this moment, both Text and Audio or the "Major Belts" will be up for grabs every 3 months, REGARDLESS of whether or not the current holder enters. I'll explain more about that later. The "Minor" belts will be contested at least twice a year at tournaments when we've finalised a concrete schedule. To this end, the Heat Wave tournament will have EVERY CURRENT BELT (we are looking to add more in the future, especially some audio "minors") up for grabs. This means that Heat Wave will in fact consist of 4 full tournaments as follows: 16 member text tourney 8 member audio tourney 8 pair tag tourney 8 member topical tourney To ensure we are able to actually "do" this, we are changing the way "voting" works for tournaments. There will no longer be votes from the community, instead we are implementing a "Judging Panel" system for our new tourney scene. The battles will be done between now and the end of summer when we will drop the finished battles and results. Judging panels will be comprised of the following: Host Judge - Myself, Cuba and Law are LA's "host judges." We will be responsible for ensuring that all votes meet up to the "correct standard" which I will illustrate later. Judging Pool - This will be a collection of long-serving or well-established heads chosen by the admin team to form a pool from which we can pick members to judge on battles. This pool will be fairly selective, though you can feel free to PM me if you are interested. (Note, you cannot judge an event you are entering, and as a "pool judge" judging a tournament will also disqualify for the tournament preceeding and following it in that category.) Community Judge - Along with the sign-ups for the battles, we will also have a sign up for judging. It will be self-nominated with the judges picked by democratic poll by the community. Feel free to nominate yourself as a judge for any of the 4 categories, just be aware that if you are chosen you will not be able to enter that category at Heat Wave. Judging will be "transparent" and all judges will be required to fill out a "form" detailing their breakdown and vote on a number of categories. By combining this and 3 judges we hope to remove the "hate vote" factor from our battles. This is NON-NEGOTIABLE, and this IS the way the tourneys and belts are going to be handled from now on, it is NOT up for discussion. Tourneys will now also be "Seeded." Champs (And Zin as #1 contender for topical) receive auto-1st seed and get a week's notice of the tourney before the open sign ups. The current holders have already been notified of the new tourneys. Eventually entrants will be seeded on "Tourney record" however for now we're using all-time battlescore. No, but noone will even see the battles until the entire tourney has been finished. The battles will drop over a 2 week period at the end of the summer with all of the merchandise and goodies.
