Topic: Urban Legends Round Two DeadlinePosted: 10 June 2014 at 12:45pm |
|
The deadline is tomorrow, 11th June at 8pm BST. About 31 hours away.
You can see the time difference on the About page, with the ability to set your own local time. There hasn't been a single verse in yet. It's best to get your verse in as soon as possible, as there won't be any extensions if you miss the deadline. |

It's learnt from experience. The deadline might as well be 24hrs, since most people wait till the very last second before they bother to start writing. It's why most battle tournaments are blind drops. Not to protect them from the dreaded flipping, but because they don't bother writing unless the other has, causing an endless loop. Blind drops puts it all back on them selves. |

Depends on the site really, alot of sites people don't care about flipping, it's a standard part of a rap battle. But I definitely agree on the note writing til the other has thing. I've seen that ruin many a tourney.

Nobody cared about flipping here until a few years ago when a new wave of members came in. Had a load of "make flipping off by default" threads and polls. A hell of a lot of anger for it. Far more than necessary, especially when you can just state "no flips"

Hahaha yeah that's silly. When I started doin this all them years back flipping was expected, usually with the person who called out going first (although admittedly callouts back then tended to be for specific people rather than opens.) A flip to me is just one of the techniques any good battler should have, it's another way of making a punch, same as nameplays, personals, whatever. I'm actually shocked that such a fuss was made. (I actually thought you'd changed it to stop people kicking off after the fact lol)

The world has changed, these days flipping is considered cheating and is on par with biting. At least thats the impression I got from the threads.
Ah, life was simpler in the Golden Era ![]() |

hahahaha OMG. Flipping is on par with biting? These people REALLY need to get in touch with the culture, flipping is considered part of having rounded skills by ANYBODY in the hiphop scene, if flipping makes you a biter then Eminem and everyone like him with a battle background is a MASSIVE biter. Hahaha, biting will get you knocked the fuck out in the wrong circles, whether you're biting bboy moves, rhymes, letter stylez in graff, biting is bad news. (I've seen a guy get the absolute shite kicked out of him for biting the wrong guy at a bboy jam.) Being able to flip a punch and turn it on your opponent is a skill all emcees should have, love and use. Considering it even remotely close to biting is simply ridiculous, I've celebrated flipped bars and given mad props for them.

I don't think anyone actually said that, it was more for a comparison on rage. Was a lot of heavy campaigning at the time.
Few of the threads I found: http://www.lyricalassault.co.uk/forum/flipasco_topic25271.html http://www.lyricalassault.co.uk/forum/2013-new-no-flip-rule-suggestion-poll_topic25291.html http://www.lyricalassault.co.uk/forum/flipping-in-a-battle_topic27614.html http://www.lyricalassault.co.uk/forum/feeding-flipping_topic26850.html Overall feel I got was, "It should stay as it is, but i dont like it and always battle 'no flips'", so nothing changed, rules wise. |

If someone calls you out personally....they should go first and flipping should be allowed. Otherwise someone just doing an open callout to anyone there shouldnt be flipping. Only if they were doing 2 rounds or something. Like people have said, it should mimic a live battle, but in live battles the guy that went first can flip shit back in the 2nd round when he goes first. Just my opinion....

it's usually alternate in all battles i've been in on stage and seen. As in 1st person gets to flip once, second person twice. Flipping doesn't give you any advantage, you still have to reword it into a punch that works, people act like everyone who writes text is good at flipping...most of the active battlers right now can't write a punchline never mind fuckin flip one lol.

That's what I've never understood about the whole "flipping should only be allowed for multiple rounds" argument. And Trizzy - as always mentioned - people are free to allow or disallow flipping in their battles. Which is why I don't understand the hate for it. |

The thing is, flipping doesn't give you an advantage. And that's what's so silly about it. For a start, it's only worth flipping if the person before you even had a decent punchline, then you have to actually be able to reword their concept and aim it back at them in a direct way. Again, most of the active cats can't write a direct punchline on their own, never mind someone else's concept. It's like putting two men with no arms in a boxing ring and giving one of them a stick. He's still not gonna hit any fucking harder with his stumps.

I think I've seen shit like that where people have voted against someone for something they dont but is allowed by the rules. I should probably disallow the vote for either being a hate votes or retarded. |
