This is T-Ripper's personal thread. This thread should be used to help T-Ripper to perfect his tracks, ask the rest of us for feed, ask us for collabos and ideas and for him to work with me and dal in finding his "sound" and becoming a great artist.

Thanks a lot SS. First of all, I'm really excited and I'm feeling like this is the right place for me already.
Now as for my AMs, I dropped a remix earlier this week but I only got one feed that too from a text head. So for a better, and more detailed perspective, I'm posting it here for my crew members: https://soundcloud.com/pulkit1208/nick-jonas-jealous-t-ripper-remix I have a few ideas lately, like alias rapping as a 'terrorist', which I've been called in a few battles (Ashley ;)). I think that I can sound cool with it. Also, as a bigger project, I'll be needing y'all to help me with a beat for a graduation song I want to make to bid adieu to my seniors. It's in a month so we can start afresh. I think this is too much for one time so I'm gonna give you a break. Just let me know on that audio if you can. Thanks for setting this up SS. :) |

T-Ripper feedback
Firstly, I don't even wanna know why you remixed this... lmao, jus kidding... not really... no, I'm kidding forreal tho... But firstly, the quality is terrible... that isn't as important as it would normally be but it may be why you haven't received feedback before... one thing I will say, I put out 2 mixtapes of industry remixes like this, when doing so, your mixing skills have to be top notch to try to match the $40,000 mics and million dollar studios... it impossible but it takes a real knowledge base of what's going on... As far as the song, between the distortion and your accent it's hard to make out the the lyrics so I don't really know what your saying... despite this the flow seems rather good... jus based on rhythm, you are way more advance than I expected... I can tell from the rhythm that the writing was done so with recording in mind so props on that... I will say that though I can't make out the majority of the words, I can tell that the delivery is terrible... Sounds like your holding back as if your trying to record with sum one trying to sleep in the room... I'm not sure what kind of mic set up you have but whatever it is, try to set it up in a manner that makes you stand when you record... sounds like your sitting at a desk recording... you'll natural project better when your standing... also, if you can, make yourself a pop filter... it's really simple, I made like 4 of them before I finally caved and started buying them... Real simple to do, my first was a wire hanger bent into the shape of a circle with a handle sticking out of it that I put sum nylons over, stretched to a loosely tight fit and rubber banded the extra around the handle... would hold it in front of the mic when I spat to catch the plosives... didn't cost a penny... built sum really cool ones too with 3 to 4 dollars worth of craft shit... I'm rambling, the point is you want to catch those plosives... and stand... and while your standing, take a step back from the mic... in post production, it's easy as hell to fix sumfin that's not loud enough but it's impossible to fix clipping (the result of sounds being captured into the mic above the maximum loudness it can properly record) I think that is plenty enough feedback to get you well on your way |

Thanks for the feed Dal. I really needed to know where I was going wrong. You're right, I was sitting during the recording. I'll make sure to be standing next time. One thing which is holding me back with the quality is my phone. I use it for recording. I had bought a mic but it turned out to be a defected piece so I'm gonna wait a bit till I buy a new one. I'm trying to have better quality till then with whatever I have.
I'll make sure to follow your advice next time onwards. About the accent, well maybe I'll try to bemore clear next time. Thanks a lot for the detailed feed. |

Your recording with your fone? Please explain how you go about recording... I would like to further break down your process and give advice on how you could make it work and get decent quality

to be honest, I actually think that's pretty dope for a fucking fone? WHAT THE FUCK? Man i'm so old-fashioned when it comes to shit like that. I record mostly on a computer, I can do analogue 8 tracks etc and digital 8 tracks, and other oldschool shit but fones may be something you kick my ass at Dal.

Oh and T, what's your 1st language? And will you do me a favour and try and spit in that? Instead of how a word looks, think of how it "sounds" rhyme the words by the way they sound, but in your own language. It doesn't have to be good even, I just want to hear it. It'll help me understand your accent better when I'm teachin you how to spit :)

My recording process is different each time as I keep on modifying it so I'll describe the most recent one. I have an android phone, Moto G 1st gen, with an app called 'Audio Recorder'. It's just a basic app which records sounds in WAV format. To avoid the sounds of exhales, I put my phone inside a thin cardboard box just after I hit the record button (I have included it's image in the bottom). This acted as my filter. I was searching for a stand so that somehow I would be standing while spitting but I couldn't think of anything at that time. Besides, since it was early morning I had noise disturbances from my family members as they weren't aware I was recording lol. I'll try to find a quiet place next time though. I'll be happy to improvise so let me know what can be done here. ![]()
My first language is Hindi, and so is Axy's. I think whatever advice you'll give me about accents will be of help to him too. Also, you want me to spit in hindi? I haven't written anything in hindi but I can write something up. |

It sound as though your recording both the vocals and the beat into the fone at once... what I would recommend for starters is to find a set of head fones and play the beat thru those when u record if you don't do so already. Maybe try to sync the recording with a time stamp by recording yourself counting down before you start the beat to make it easier to aline it when mixing... in addition, remove the fone from the box... I'd highly recommend putting it in nylons or a piece of cloth opposed to a box... stretching an old t shirt over it will do jus fine if need be... oh yea, don't worry so much about inhales... in my experience, they never degrade the quality of songs if they are taken in rhythm... actually, they serve as a low key humanizing effect... and it's easy enough to get them out of the mix with a noise gate anyways if it's that much of an issue... as far as finding a stand maybe jus find yourself a quiet corner and place the fone on a chair and stand over it and spit... I'm willing to bet the mic will pick up the vocals jus fine and you won't have to worry so much clipping or plosives...
I've jus lost my train of thought so I'm not sure what to say next lol |

I'm sorry I forgot to mention that part. I don't record the beat along with it. I do what you said here. I mix the vocals and the beat later. I used Reaper to mix this audio. It didn't go well. |

Hey guys,
So today I was on my way to College and I was freestyling in my head when I was alone. I felt good about it so I thought of doing some freestyling in front my friends but to my shock I just went blank. This happens with me at a lot of times. I don't know if you consider freestyling as a part of artist development but I wanna know some advice in case any of the members are good at it. PS: On a side note, I had written some shit this weekend and wanted my friends to hear it. I was flowing perfectly when I left for college in the morning but when it came to spit in front of my friends, I choked again. I mean I doubt if this was even a choke as I don't know what happened but I just forgot the lyrics when I made an eye contact. I fumbled like 3 times just to spit 8 bars. Definitely not a good day today and I know I can't be a pro in like a day or a week or even a year. But I found this weakness I want to work on for now because rapping is all about performing according to me, and what gives more confidence than successfully freestyling with your bros? |

Right here is not an issue with your ability to freestyle or to spit, it's your ability to be confident spitting in front of others. You have to realize that they are waiting to hear you kill it, they are ready to support you. Don't be scared to spit with them, be proud. Practice your writtens and just let them flow, dont worry about what they think. As for freestyling, just have some fun, dont be concerned with killing it, just spit for your bros and they will respect that, its a freestyle, they arent expecting u to be eminem. Don't think so much, just let it flow

I need some help here. I did as Dal said.. I made a stand to hold the phone up to the height of my face, I made a filter with a cloth and I recorded while standing. But when I tried to mix it with the beat for a demo using Audacity, the recording was of very low volume when compared to the beat.
So as SS said, I kept the recording at 0 db and lowered the beat volume. But then I had some more problems in mixing the later verses. They just wouldn't land on the beat. It's been happening for a long time. I'm trying to fix this problem and I'm still trying to figure out how to improve the quality of the recording. I can fix the landing on the beat part by recording multiple times but what can I do to improve the quality of the recordings? |

You shouldn't worry about low volume as long as is audible... in audio,is very easy to make things louder and extremely hard to make them softer... long as you get a good take its mix able... I'm not sure what u mean by off the beat, do u mean the timing is off as in its out of sync?

Yeah off beat as in out of sync.. While performing it feels fine but the bars just won't fall on the end snare when I'm mixing..

Cut the silence at the beginning them manually drag it until it's in sync, recording with the proper tempo will help make it easier top keep everything in sync too... look into your program and try to find a tempo tapper

That advice really worked. Thanks a lot Dal! I used it for an audio in Hindi. In one of the above posts, SS had asked me to post a rap in hindi so that he can interpret my accent.
Here it is, https://soundcloud.com/pulkit1208/hindi-track-demo |
