I am currently trying to upgrade a lot of the old antiquated code from 5+ years ago. As part of this, various things will be disappearing either permanently or temporarily.

To start with, Battle Ranks have been removed from forum posts while I upgrade the back-end system, this will reappear once I've finished.

After this I will be working on the crew system, which is in dire need of attention. So expect the crew related features to disappear over the next few weeks too.

You will also notice the Thumbs Up / Down has been removed - this has been replaced with a simple "Likes" system in the top right of posts.

To help aid future plans, we would encourage you to rate topics when you drop feed. This is mostly Open Mics, Audio Mics and Battles. You can rate any topic you like but anything other than these will mean fuck all. Also topic rating abuse will result in a ban.

Yo Scotty,
ya might as well delete the "Top Sites List" also, as neither of them are up anymore.

Top-25.com: The old lists is still up, there is still a link to LA there but the voting system doesn't work anymore.

HipHop100.net: completely gone

The layout is a separate, more long-term, project I am working on, so haven't bothered with it yet. Didn't realise the top sites dont work any more so I'll remove them, especially the HipHop100. Thanks for the heads up.

Are they going to start over, or will they reappear as they were?

They will reappear as they were.

I have not removed them completely and they are still being tracked by moderators.

Ok, I've made some big changes to the database to try and help fix the failed post issue.

I have also made some upgrades to the Battle Ranks. Your Rank will be automatically updated once a week and it will tell you if you are moving up or down the ranks.

I have also included an "All Time" ranking list, which includes all the old members, any old heads should check it out for some flash backs.

I have also started to temporarily remove Crews as part of the upgrade for that. So crew forums are gone (but not lost) and you won't be able to join any crews.

If there are any problems with the site, let me know. If you are unable to post, use the Contact us page.

I've done another small update, mostly cleaning up code on several pages.

Main thing you may be interested in, I have added a new (old?) skin. Some may remember it from a few years back, Cool Blue.

Enjoy, And remember to rate open mics and battles when you drop feed / vote.

Is this still coming back?

A great feature to add to this system would be a place where a member can check their likes.
This way they would be able to see 'who' liked 'what'.

Maybe when a member clicks on the "likes" in an individuals profile, it could open a likes log.

Yes I do intend to add Battle Stats back to forum posts again, I just need to time to do it. I have been focusing on improving other parts of the site, as I mentioned, a lot of the sites code is very old and in dire need of improving.

The 'Likes' system is part of the forum software and I haven't really had time to look at improving it yet. Though I like the idea of displaying a "likes log" on the profile, so I will probably do it how you suggested when I get time to focus on that.

Personally from my point of view it is more important people rated topics than liked posts, as I had hoped to use it for various extra features, such as improved Classic Verses.

Yea, I don't know if you use javascript, or java, but that new shit they added to javascript is like learning a completely new language.

Yea, for the likes log. If I see new likes in my profile and want to see who liked what, I have to go looking through my most recent posts.
So the log would be killer.

I'm pretty good at coding, but I don't think I would be able to create a whole like's system for ya (that had a log) or else I would try. That just takes a lot of knowledge because you're getting into a few different cases of writing cookies and well hell, you are basically writing a facebook like system.
Lol, yea have fun with that.

Nice attempt at using jargon, but a fail on the reality side of things.

No idea what "new thing" "they" (who?) added to javascript means, Ajax? jQuery?
Ajax isnt really that new, and jQuery is just a framework to make coding easier, so its all just Javascript at the end of the day.

I've been gettin into Javascripts a lot lately on another project and it is all pretty amazing stuff you can do with it, my personal favourite is Google Maps. So expect to see some of it creep into LA (though not as impressive)

Personally I'm more of a back-end developer, so the Like system is a piece of piss. Though it has naff all to do with cookies (was that just a buzzword you heard of?), all you are really doing is displaying the contents of a database, one of the most basic things of dynamic websites. The "hardest part" (if any) is the permissions system, ie hide liked posts from private forums from those who shouldn't see it. But that isn't exactly hard.

I'll assume you have only ever dealt with the client-side, if any, based on your post. One of the most amusing comments I have ever heard, was when I spoke to an ex-member of LA about websites, and they claimed FTP was really really complicated. I guess they just preferred the "fill out a form" way of creating a website.

(Disclaimer - I am a web developer for a living, if you hadn't guessed)

Well okay big shot!
This was just one smart ass comment.

Maybe you, "Mr.Website developer" who has a website looking like it's still living in the 80's should read up on some present day shit!
javascript has recently had new instructors added which shorten the writing of codes tremendously, hence making it look like a java code.
(Which 20 lines of javascript can be written with just 1 line of java.)

Ajax and jQuery? Are you kidding me, those are older than this site practically, JQuery is simply Javascripts library to simplify javascripts programming. Ajax basically just sends and receives data without being noticed.

So you are requesting the code to check who and what was liked for each individual member with no cookies? That means that the log would never reload. I guess YOU would write the code like that, to where the log is not updated every time that a member checks theirs individually.

I don't understand why you seem to get so offended whenever somebody talks code to you.
It's like you have a complex or some shit ....

BOO HOO YOUZ INSULT MEZ SKILLZ!!!!!!!!

What a complete bullshit statement, so you are basing your opinions on my ability to make a website (AFTER I mentioned I do server-side programming, rather than client-side) ON the client-side? And I would imagine LA is FAR more advanced, design wise, than a website from the 80s, really why not go all out and say the Roman times?

(That is ignoring that LA is basically a hobby site [largely ignored by my self for the past few years] and not a true example of my professional work, but hay who cares)

Again, I do server-side, not so much client-side, and I have only dabbled in JS (as I already said) so I don't need to keep up as much on the advances of that

Congragulates on repeating what I already said, momma'd be so proud!

I have to admit, I have read this section god knows how many times, and I STILL cannot understand how on earth you could shoehorn Cookies into the display of Like systems logs. Really I don't.

So I have decided that instead of responding with how it is actually done, I will offer you the challenge of either explaining how you would do it, or if you are feeling REALLY cocky, why not produce some code (which would explain it far better to me). I really would love to see how cookies are required for such a simple task.

But yeah, the logs thing really is basic, I could knock it out in an hour (prob no more than 1/2hr, but I haven't looked at the permissions aspect properly and security would be the biggest chunk of time). Yeah an hour why haven't I shut up and completed it already? The problem is finding an hour to spare to actually complete it. Not to mention their are far more important things to fix up before a vanity project like that. You mentioned putting the battle stats back in profiles, there is the crew section which is in desperate need of attention. This isn't factoring in all of the wasted time I spend on LA dealing with complete and utter bullshit like your pointless beef with Manc (or I suspect the new beef with Cuba) or anything else I do on LA.

But yeah, I'd love to hear how Cookies can be crammed into displaying who liked what. Get at me!
